Paver patios, walkways and driveways are a premium feature on any property — but pavers are also the surface that most homeowners neglect the longest. Joint sand washes out within a year or two. Weeds and moss take over. Color fades from UV. Efflorescence (the white salt bloom that comes up out of the concrete) makes the surface look perpetually dirty. Within five years an installation that cost $15,000–$40,000 looks tired, unstable and uninviting. AquaShine's paver restoration brings it back to the day it was installed — and the sealer we apply keeps it that way for years.
The restoration is a four-step process. First, we hot-water clean the entire surface with a controlled-pressure surface cleaner that lifts dirt, moss, weeds, organic stains and old efflorescence. Hot water is critical — cold water simply will not break the bond on bio-growth and efflorescence the way 180°F water does. After cleaning, we vacuum out the loose joint sand, weeds and debris. If any pavers have heaved, sunk or shifted, we identify them and offer a re-leveling option.
Step two is killing any remaining weeds and moss at the root with a non-staining, post-emergent treatment. This dwells while we move to step three: re-sanding the joints with high-quality polymeric sand. Polymeric sand is engineered to lock the pavers together, prevent weed regrowth, resist insects, and stay in place even under heavy rain and pressure washing. We sweep it deep into every joint, vibrate or compact as needed, blow off the excess, and lightly mist to activate the polymer.
Step four — and the step that delivers the biggest visual transformation — is sealing. We apply a high-quality water-based or solvent-based paver sealer depending on your goals. A natural-finish sealer protects the surface without changing the appearance. A wet-look sealer enhances the color and gives the pavers the rich, saturated tone they had right after installation. Both options provide 3–5 years of UV, stain and freeze-thaw protection, lock the polymeric sand in place, and dramatically simplify maintenance — most paver surfaces that have been sealed can be rinsed clean with just a garden hose between visits.
We restore concrete pavers, clay pavers, travertine, flagstone and natural stone. Travertine and natural stone get specialty acidic cleaners and breathable sealers that won't trap moisture in the stone. Concrete pavers can take any of the standard sealers depending on appearance preference.
